UBHWANDO FUNDS AND HOST
BIOTECHNOLOGY INNOVATION FOR
HEALTH MANUFACTURING WORKSHOP

Built on a mission to empower young people in Malawi, In January, 2026, we funded and trained early‑stage, youth‑led health startups, giving them the skills to grow through learning and early support. This included hands‑on sessions in biomanufacturing and innovation entrepreneurship, guided by experienced speakers such as Kingstone Nihaka, founder of Plasmigene in South Africa, and our guest of honor, Dr. Lusako Sibale. Bringing these voices together created real inspiration and practical knowledge that helped young entrepreneurs shape their ideas into real solutions.

The workshop united participants from different backgrounds, encouraging them to work together, explore new ideas, and face hands‑on biomanufacturing challenges at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences. Trainees expressed how the experience opened their minds, with one noting that the group exercises made complex topics easier to understand, and another saying the mentorship gave them a clearer sense of direction in their career.

U BHWANDO EMPOWERING SMALL
E NTERPRISES THROUGH TRAINING AND
P ROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

At Ubhwando, training remains at the heart of how we support young people in Malawi. Our recent program, hosted at KUHES Blantyre, brought together young minds eager to learn and improve their small enterprises. The sessions provided practical exercises, teamwork, and open conversations that helped participants build confidence and discover new approaches to developing their ideas. By connecting learning with real community needs, the training encouraged young people to take steps that strengthen their work and inspire sustainable progress.

These trainings play an important role in helping young people shape better futures for themselves and their communities. They offer a chance to learn practical skills, test new approaches, and work together on real challenges. With each session, participants grow their knowledge and build stronger foundations for their small enterprises.

The SWEAT Africa Story

Connecting Africa's
Future Builders

Sweat Africa began as a simple idea after a tough mountain run in Stellenbosch. A group of young founders realised the power of gathering people who are building Africa’s future in one intense, energetic space. Today, Sweat Africa is a two‑day event that brings together investors, entrepreneurs and start‑ups to connect, learn and create real impact.

Ubhwando’s involvement opens doors to new networks, mentorship and opportunities that support its growth across the continent. Ubhwando is using its place within SWEAT to build strong biomanufacturing collaborations, connecting youth-led projects with expert guidance and early funding.
